Federal authorities in the Northern District of Ohio have announced several immigration enforcement actions. The United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) detailed separate cases involving individuals charged with or sentenced for illegal reentry into the United States.
Edin Oneil Carrillos-Rodriguez, a 36-year-old citizen of Honduras, has been charged with one count of illegal reentry under Title 8 U.S. Code (USC) 1326. Authorities say he was previously removed from the country at least twice, most recently on December 11, 2014. He was located in Vickery, Ohio on July 25, 2025, without permission to return from either the U.S. Attorney General or the Secretary for Homeland Security. U.S. Border Patrol-Sandusky Bay Station investigated this case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Gene Crawford is prosecuting it.
Vicente Lopez-Gomez, a 37-year-old citizen of Mexico, received a sentence of time served after pleading guilty to illegal reentry. He had previously been removed from the United States on October 3, 2016. Lopez-Gomez remains detained while awaiting deportation proceedings. The investigation involved both U.S. Border Patrol-Sandusky Bay Station and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office; Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara Al-Sorghali prosecuted the case.
Aurelio Mariscal-Chavez, also a Mexican citizen aged 37, was sentenced to time served after pleading guilty to illegal reentry following his previous removal from the country on February 3, 2016. Mariscal-Chavez is also detained pending deportation proceedings. This case was investigated by U.S Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracey Tangeman.
Authorities emphasized that “an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt,” adding that “each defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.” Sentencing decisions will be made by the court based on individual circumstances such as prior criminal records and details related to each offense.
These enforcement actions are part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative using resources from the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and targeting transnational criminal organizations.
