Cleveland police detective indicted in Medina County placed on unpaid leave

Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy A. Todd stated that the Cleveland Division of Police was notified on August 28, 2025, about the indictment of Detective Donald Kopchak. The indictment, issued by Medina County Courts on August 26, 2025, includes both felony and misdemeanor charges.

Following department policy and the collective bargaining agreement, Detective Kopchak has been placed on unpaid administrative leave while legal proceedings are ongoing.

"The Cleveland Division of Police takes these matters seriously and remains committed to upholding the integrity of the department and the trust of the community we serve. Due process is a fundamental principle, and the officers are entitled to a fair and impartial legal process," said Chief Todd.
