Jon Husted, U.S. Senator from Ohio, visited Columbus and Cincinnati to discuss workforce development and education initiatives. In Columbus, Husted addressed the Ohio Teamsters conference, an event representing workers from multiple industries in the state.
“In Ohio, we are blessed to have a great education system that ensures everyone has the chance to reach their God-given potential. That, added to the fact that we are home to the most dedicated, hard-working people in the country, is what has won our state the chance to build the things the world needs—from the planes we fly on, to the cars we drive, to the technology that connects it all together,” said Husted.
Husted emphasized his commitment to providing opportunities for both education and meaningful employment. “Ensuring Ohioans have the opportunity to earn a good education and a purposeful career has always driven my public service. I was honored to join the Teamsters today and talk about how we are building an economy that rewards hard work. The Ohioans I spent time alongside today have helped build our state’s economic foundation and are a key to its future success,” said Husted.
During his trip, Husted also toured Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. He met with college leadership to discuss how students and local businesses could benefit from new Workforce Pell Grant provisions included in recent budget legislation.
“Visiting Cincinnati State gave me a front-row look at how their programs are helping students build the skills they need to earn Ohio’s in-demand jobs. Career tech education keeps Ohioans competitive in the workforce, and the new Workforce Pell Grants will allow more students to access short-term training that opens the door to more opportunity,” said Husted.
Husted's visit aligns with his ongoing support for affordable job training programs and access to well-paying jobs across Ohio. As a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, he played a role in ensuring Workforce Pell Grants were part of recent budget law changes.
