Ohio Senator Jon Husted met with business leaders and education officials in Dayton, highlighting recent legislative measures aimed at supporting economic growth and workforce development in the state.

Speaking to over 150 attendees at the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce government affairs luncheon, Husted outlined several initiatives he has supported in the Senate. “In the Senate, I’ve been working to help Ohio continue to embrace innovation and to remove barriers that make it hard for businesses and workers to succeed. We’ve already accomplished a number of priorities for Ohio: No tax on tips, no tax on overtime, a $2,200 tax credit for every child for working families and a new Workforce Pell Grant program to help young adults earn a workforce credential at their local community colleges. That helps them earn good jobs, support their families and give back to their local economies,” said Husted.

The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is recognized as the largest business organization in the region, representing 2,200 member businesses across 14 counties.

Husted emphasized collaboration between businesses and policymakers as key to regional economic stability. “Dayton businesses and policymakers worked together to put our city and state on a solid economic footing. Now, the area between Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati is the defense and aerospace capital of the world. Because economic development is a team sport, it’s important for lawmakers to help communities support their businesses, get taxes under control and open options for school choice and career education. The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce is doing its part to multiply success in the Miami Valley,” said Husted.

During his visit, Husted also toured Sinclair College’s Health Sciences Center. He discussed how provisions in the recent budget law—including Workforce Pell Grants—are intended to benefit students seeking industry credentials through career programs. Sinclair College operates the largest workforce development program in Dayton.

“One of the ways the recent budget law prioritizes Ohio’s needs is by establishing Workforce Pell Grants. I fought to expand this resource so these grants could help more Ohioans earn industry credentials that lead to good-paying jobs. It was exciting to see how these new tools complement Sinclair’s ongoing efforts to help Ohioans become career-ready, which keeps good jobs here in our state,” explained Husted.
