Bowling Green State University’s baseball team hosted Notre Dame at Steller Field on Sunday, marking the first time since 2009 that a Power 5 opponent played at the venue. The game was closely contested, with strong pitching performances from both teams. Landon Willeman started for Bowling Green and threw five scoreless innings, striking out five batters.

Despite outhitting Notre Dame, Bowling Green was unable to score. The Fighting Irish took the lead in the sixth inning and added another run in the seventh to secure a 4-0 win. After Willeman exited, Connar Penrod and Logan Bell combined for two scoreless innings to finish the game.

Coach Kyle Hallock commented on Willeman’s performance: “Landon gave us a great start today and kept us in the game early.” Hallock also praised his bullpen: “Penrod and Bell have been consistent all season and did their jobs again.”

The Falcons had opportunities to score, including loading the bases in the third inning, but were unable to capitalize. Zack Horky extended his on-base streak to 20 games and his hitting streak to 13 games. Garrett Wright has now reached base in 37 of the last 38 games.

Bowling Green’s record stands at 31-19 with four regular-season games remaining before the Mid-American Conference Tournament begins on May 21. The team will play Toledo next in a non-conference matchup at Scott Park on Tuesday before concluding their season with a three-game home series against Northern Illinois starting Thursday.
