Bowling Green State University’s baseball team secured a 9-7 victory over Butler University in a non-conference game on Wednesday at Steller Field. The Falcons overcame deficits three times before taking the lead for good in the sixth inning.

Freshman Carter Mottice delivered a single to bring home sophomore Garrett Sloan with the go-ahead run in the sixth, giving Bowling Green (31-16) an 8-7 advantage. Junior Zack Horky added insurance with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, scoring Sloan again.

Key contributors included Sloan, sophomore Garrett Wright, and senior Gavin Ganun, each scoring twice. Freshman CJ Boudreaux was credited with his first collegiate win after pitching as the fourth of six relievers for Bowling Green. Junior Ty Roder and redshirt freshman Titus Lotz both threw scoreless innings, while senior Connar Penrod closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning to earn his 12th save of the season.

Wright and Ganun both hit home runs during the contest.

For Butler (14-34), Danny Barbero had four hits including a homer and drove in four runs. Logan Crock also recorded four hits. Although Butler led Bowling Green in total hits 14-6, Falcon batters drew nine walks during the game.

The Bulldogs opened with three runs in the first inning but Bowling Green responded by scoring five runs in the fourth after trailing early. The teams traded leads through the middle innings before Mottice’s single put Bowling Green ahead to stay.

Garrett Wright extended his on-base streak to 35 games with his fourth-inning home run, marking the first Falcon homer since April 19 against Ball State—a span of nine games without one. Zack Horky pushed his own on-base streak to 17 games and has now hit safely in ten straight contests. During this stretch, Horky has contributed significantly to team offense with multiple hits and RBIs.

CJ Boudreaux earned his first career win by pitching an inning as part of Bowling Green’s bullpen effort. Connar Penrod’s save extended his school record for saves in a season to 12; he now ranks fourth all-time at BGSU with 13 career saves.

Wright’s two runs scored increased his season total to 57, placing him ninth on Bowling Green’s single-season list for runs scored. He is approaching Corey Loomis’ mark of 61 set in 2002; Aric Christman holds the record with 73 from 2001.

Next up for Bowling Green is a weekend series against Notre Dame. Games will be played Friday and Saturday in South Bend before returning to Steller Field on Sunday. Updates regarding schedule changes will be available on BGSUFalcons.com and through team social media channels.
