Kadie Hempfling, a former standout player for Bowling Green State University (BGSU) women's basketball, has joined the program as an assistant coach. Head coach Fred Chmiel announced her addition to the staff following Hempfling's year at Ohio Northern University, where she was part of a coaching team that led the Polar Bears to a 19-8 record and a second-place finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

"Kadie is a great addition to our staff for a multitude of reasons," said Chmiel. "She is an alum with great passion and energy for the community and the University. We are thrilled to welcome her back to BGSU!"

Hempfling, originally from Ottawa, Ohio, had a notable five-year playing career at BGSU. She expressed appreciation for returning: "To be asked to come back to the university where I poured my heart into everything I did on and off the court is an honor beyond words," said Hempfling. "This place and this community shaped me as a player and a person.

"I have so much gratitude for Coach Chmiel and the opportunity to come back and help shape the next generation as a coach at a place I deeply love. I am also grateful to give back to the program and community that gave me so much. As always, Go Falcons!"

During her time with BGSU, Hempfling earned All-Mid-American Conference Third Team honors in both 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. She served multiple years as team captain and led in scoring during 2021-22 with an average of 11.7 points per game. That season she also led in field-goal percentage (49.8%) while ranking among team leaders in rebounds, assists, and steals.

Hempfling started all games during her junior year and maintained strong three-point shooting statistics throughout her college career. By its end, she played in more games than any other player in BGSU women's basketball history (155), starting 122 times.

Her career statistics include:

- 1,281 points (18th all-time)

- 809 rebounds (eighth)

- 432 assists (seventh)

- 148 made three-pointers

- First Falcon ever with at least 1,000 points, 700 rebounds, and 400 assists

In January 2022 she reached personal milestones including her 1,000th point against Western Michigan.

In addition to athletic achievements, Hempfling excelled academically with undergraduate studies in psychology (minor in science), graduating with a cumulative GPA of 3.828 before earning an MBA from BGSU in 2023.

She was named Academic All-MAC four times during her collegiate tenure.
