A man from Lucas County, Ohio, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in the robbery of a U.S. postal carrier. Damere Wilson, 21, of Toledo, received a 20-month prison sentence from U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary after pleading guilty to charges including robbery of mail, theft of mail collection box keys, and mail theft. Following his imprisonment, Wilson will also serve three years of supervised release.

Court documents state that on March 12, 2024, Wilson drove an unidentified individual to the Piccadilly Apartments in Oregon, Ohio. The individual confronted a United States Postal Service letter carrier who was delivering mail at the location. The assailant pressed a hard object into the carrier’s back and demanded the mailbox key. "Under the threat of violence, the letter carrier provided the key to this unidentified individual, who then quickly fled the scene." Afterward, Wilson drove the person away from the area.

A search warrant executed at Wilson’s residence led investigators to recover the stolen postal key and more than 200 checks amounting to thousands of dollars. These checks were linked to over 100 victims of mail theft across northern Ohio.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) and the City of Oregon Police Division. Assistant United States Attorney Frank H. Spryszak prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
