An Akron man has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine and cocaine in Northeast Ohio. Antoine D. Cook, 46, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent after being convicted by a jury in June on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and felon in possession of ammunition.
Court records show that on May 1, 2024, Cook was found with about 25 grams of methamphetamine and three grams of cocaine packaged for sale. He also had more than 80 rounds of ammunition despite previous felony convictions. Cook's criminal record includes prior convictions for domestic violence (1996, 2010, 2012, and 2014), distribution of a controlled substance (2002), aggravated assault (2012 and 2015), and felonious assault (2018).
Cook was designated as a career offender and armed career criminal due to his history of serious drug and violent felonies, resulting in an enhanced sentence. In addition to the prison term, he will serve eight years of supervised release after completing his incarceration.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives led the investigation into the case with help from the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. Assistant United States Attorney Peter E. Daly prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
