Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced the results of the September TechCred application period, highlighting that 597 employers were awarded opportunities for Ohioans to earn 7,421 tech-focused credentials. Husted emphasized the benefits of the program: “With TechCred everybody wins – employers get a more skilled workforce and their employees earn skills that give them more job security.”
The TechCred initiative aims to meet business workforce needs by training employees in essential technology-driven economy skills, such as artificial intelligence (AI). In this round, AI credentials were the most requested, with 1,300 awarded. Additionally, 62 schools across Ohio received funding to help teachers gain new AI skills.
Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development, said, “The DeWine-Husted administration is committed to ensuring the next generation of Ohio’s workforce has the skills they need to thrive in their careers.” She added that TechCred empowers both employers and employees.
Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey remarked on the program’s success: “Through nearly 30 rounds of awards, the TechCred program has proven to be a winning formula for our employers, their workers, and our state.”
The next application period for Ohio employers will open on January 2, 2025, and close on January 31, 2025. Interested individuals and training providers can find more information at TechCred.Ohio.gov.
