Federal authorities in the Northern District of Ohio have announced several recent immigration enforcement actions. The United States Attorney’s Office stated that these are separate cases and not related.
Gonzalo Diaz-Resendiz, 29, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced to time served after pleading guilty to illegal reentry. He had previously been removed from the United States, most recently on September 6, 2013, and was found in Putnam County, Ottawa, Ohio.
Edin Oneil Carrillos-Rodriguez, 36, a citizen of Honduras, also received a sentence of time served for illegal reentry. He had been removed from the country at least twice before, with the latest removal on December 11, 2014. He was located in Sandusky County, Clyde, Ohio.
Raul Samano-Fuerte, 49, a Mexican citizen who had been deported at least four times—the last being March 10, 2009—was found in Huron County, Norwalk, Ohio. He pleaded guilty to illegal reentry and was sentenced to time served.
In addition to these cases, a federal grand jury indicted Jaime Sanchez-Tlehuactle, 43 and a citizen of Mexico. He is charged with illegal reentry after having been removed from the United States most recently on April 21, 2021. Sanchez-Tlehuactle was found in Wood County near Bowling Green. The indictment is an allegation; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Investigations were conducted by U.S. Border Patrol-Sandusky Bay Station. Assistant United States Attorneys Gene Crawford, Matthew Simko and Ava Rotell Dustin are prosecuting these cases for the Northern District of Ohio.
“These cases are part of Operation Take Back America,” according to officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio. “Operation Take Back America is a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations and protect communities from perpetrators of violent crime.”
