Wheat futures posted gains across major exchanges on Apr. 21, with Chicago SRW contracts rising by 10 to 12 cents, Kansas City HRW up by 6 to 7 cents, and Minneapolis spring wheat increasing by 3 to 4 cents at midday.
The increases come as the Export Inspections report for the week of April 16 showed that wheat shipments reached 518,141 metric tons, which is about a 90 percent jump from the previous week and slightly higher than the same period last year. The Philippines received the largest share at 96,000 metric tons, followed by Mexico and Indonesia. Despite this week’s improvement, total wheat shipped since June remains down compared to last year.
Commitment of Traders data indicated that money managers increased their net short position in Chicago Board of Trade wheat contracts while adding to their net long positions in Kansas City wheat futures and options.
