A Dayton woman was sentenced today to a term of six to nine years for defrauding the Medicaid program of $1.5 million, according to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost. “Some thieves don’t know when to quit,” Yost remarked, acknowledging the work of investigators and prosecutors in the Health Care Fraud Section.
Janay Corbitt, aged 36, admitted guilt last month to charges of second-degree felony theft and three counts of third-degree felony identity fraud. Apart from her prison sentence, she has been ordered to restore the $1.5 million.
Corbitt faced indictment in May 2024 following an investigation by the Attorney General’s Office. The probe uncovered her use of stolen identities to establish and run two fictitious behavioral-health-counseling agencies in the Dayton region. Using credentials from licensed counselors, she billed Medicaid for services that were never rendered.
Her arrest occurred in August 2024 at a bus stop in Dallas, Texas, after she left Ohio and evaded capture for several months. A prior theft conviction in 2019 had led to her prohibition from participating in the Medicaid program.
Lawyers from the Health Care Fraud Section of Yost’s office prosecuted the case at the Franklin County Common Pleas Court.
Funding for the Ohio Medicaid Fraud Control Unit derives 75% from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, equating to $15,343,488 for the fiscal year 2025, with the remaining 25%, totaling $5,114,493, sourced from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
