Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Kenyon in Non-Conference Action

The Baldwin Wallace University women’s lacrosse team faced Kenyon College for a non-conference matchup on the Tressel Field inside of the George Finnie Stadium. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Owls by a 17-8 final score.

BW (2-6) was led by freshman attack/midfielder Mariana Melgoza (Avon Lake) as she tallied a team-high three points with two goals and an assist. Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) and senior Academic All-OAC attack Sophia Leuma (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) each notched two goals. 

Kenyon (7-0) was led by junior attack/midfielder Kate Lengel as she totaled a game-high three goals. The Owls had 11 different scorers in tonight’s contest.

1st Quarter

  • Kenyon led the first quarter by scoring 10 goals, two by Lengel, and one by Mason, Kirsch, Murphy, O’Neil, Quinn, Brophy, Losey, and Hatfield 

2nd Quarter

  • The Owls notched a goal by Hutchison (free position) to take an 11-0 lead
  • Kenyon tallied another goal by Brophy, assisted by Eccleston
  • Lengel of Kenyon earned another goal, assisted by Eccleston, 13-0
  • The Owls notched a goal scored by Mason, assisted by Zuvekas
  • BW tallied its first goal of the night by Leuma, assisted by junior Academic All-OAC attack Lexy Conway (Wooster), 3:49
  • A goal by BW’s freshman attack Carley House (Hilliard/Darby) on a free position shot at 0:57 in the second closed the first half with Kenyon leading 14-2 

3rd Quarter

  • Kenyon tallied a goal by Karras at 11:12 to take a 15-2 advantage
  • BW notched a goal by Melgoza, assisted by House at 3:02
  • Hradek notched a goal at 1:10, unassisted, to bring the score to 15-4, Kenyon leading

4th Quarter

  • Melgoza notched her second goal of the day at 12:57, unassisted
  • At 9:49, Kenyon tallied a goal scored by Quinn to go up 16-5
  • Hradek scored her second goal of the day at 6:44 on a free position shot
  • BW’s Leuma notched a goal at 4:30, unassisted to bring the game to 16-7
  • Kenyon’s O’Neil tallied another goal, assisted by Eccleston
  • The Yellow Jackets notched their last goal of the game at 1:46, scored by junior All-OAC midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester), assisted by Melgoza (17-8, Kenyon)

BW is back in action on Saturday, March 25 as the team is on the road to face Muskingum University in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener. The game will begin at 12:00 p.m. on the North Turf Field.
