The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee is proud to partner with the Nick Rozanski Memorial Foundation to present the 13th annual Dublin City Schools Dodgeball Championships on May 13 to benefit Honor Flight Columbus.
This long-standing District charitable event makes its return after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The dodgeball tournament has raised more than $160,000 for a wide variety of worthy causes during its history.
“This event is going to look a little different than it has in the past but we are thrilled to have dodgeball back,” said Superintendent Dr. John Marschhausen. “My student committee has already begun the planning and I know they will do a tremendous job.”
The dodgeball tournament will take place outdoors at Dublin Coffman stadium on May 13, beginning at 7 p.m. Ticket information will be available after spring break.
The mission of Honor Flight Columbus is to honor America's senior veterans with a trip to Washington D.C. to visit the nation's memorials and to help them share their stories.
Honor Flight Columbus accepts applications from America’s senior Veterans who served on active duty prior to May 7, 1975 (the end of the Vietnam War). This era includes WWII, Korean, and Vietnam War years, as well as the Cold War periods prior to the Vietnam War. Veterans with combined active duty and guard/reserve service of over 20 years are also eligible. Our most senior Veterans, World War II and Korean War, and Purple Heart recipients receive priority and are booked on the first available flight. Vietnam Veterans are placed on a waiting list and are booked in the order in which their applications are received.
“Our student committee knows how much our veterans have sacrificed for our country and we wanted to give directly back to them this year,” said senior committee member Will Smialek. “We hope everyone will join us in giving generously, so as a community, we can fund an honor flight.”
During the tournament, students and staff will pay tribute to Capt. Nick Rozanski, who died serving our country 10 years ago this spring. Nick graduated from Dublin Coffman High School and earned a B.A. in Communications from The Ohio State University. An avid runner, a soccer coach, and father, he was known as an all around good guy, who above all else loved his wife and little girls. A member of the Ohio Army National Guard’s 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Nick previously served in both Kosovo and Iraq until his final deployment in 2012. Captain Nicholas J. Rozanski died in action on April 4, 2012.
“I am so pleased the Nick Rozanski Memorial Foundation could be part of this year’s fundraising effort to benefit Honor Flight,” said Memorial Foundation Co-Founder and President Jenny Rozanski. “He would have been very proud of his alma mater, and of our entire community, for what they are doing to help our aging veterans visit the nation’s memorials.”
The tournament on May 13 will be the culminating event to a spring full of activities at the school building level. Our schools will be provided a tool kit of activities they can use to raise funds at the building level and all qualifying building-level dodgeball tournament proceeds will also benefit Honor Flight.
