Today, Rep. Shontel M. Brown (OH-11) announced the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) has been awarded $4 million in grant funding through the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Bus and Bus Facilities Grant Program. The funding will be used for GCRTA’s Hayden Garage Roof Replacement Project.
GCRTA bus services include more than 400 buses that serve riders at 6,000 stops throughout the region. The Hayden Garage, one of GCRTA’s two major bus facilities, houses over 180 buses and has a 23-year-old roof that has exceeded its useful life. With this grant funding, GCRTA would remove the existing roof and replace it with a new roof that is expected to be serviceable for the next several decades.
Rep. Brown sent a letter to FTA Administrator Nuria Fernandez expressing her support for the project.
“Clevelanders rely on RTA’s BUS services to get to work, school, hospitals, and countless other destinations each day,” said Rep. Brown. "Investments in the safety and reliability of our public transportation will improve service across the region and unlock opportunities for riders. Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s historic investment in public transit, we can expect more projects like this in the years to come that will create jobs and strengthen our community.”
“Grants like these are critical to help GCRTA realize our daily mission of connecting the community through safe operations as a result of hard work, dedication to excellence, and a reliable fleet,” said GCRTA General Manager, Chief Executive Officer India Birdsong.
