Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman issued the following statement after meeting with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, President Biden’s nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court:
“I appreciated the opportunity to meet with Judge Jackson. I asked her questions about her approach to interpreting and applying the law, restraints on judicial activism, and her experience as a judge. As I’ve said many times, the job of a Supreme Court justice is to fairly and impartially apply the law and to protect our rights guaranteed by the Constitution, not to advance public policy goals by legislating from the bench. I look forward to watching her Judiciary Committee hearings next week as the confirmation process moves forward.”
