The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) awarded Notre Dame College's Cale Hoskinson and Matthew Kaufmann with Scholar All-America honors for the 2021-22 campaign. This is the third consecutive year that the NDC wrestling program has had at least two student-athletes named to the NWCA list.
As a team, Notre Dame finished third in the Mountain East Conference Championships, won two of their three matchups at the Greyhound Duals, including a win over No. 9 Findlay and qualified two for the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
In his freshman season, Hoskinson performed extremely well. The Green Cove Springs, Fla. native grabbed second place at the Storm Open, winning three times to get to the finals. Hoskinson, a biology major, then finished third at 165 lbs. in the MEC Championships, winning by fall in the third-place match, and then took third at the JCU Open. He finished fifth at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open and battled back to grab fifth place at the DII Super Regional III, as well.
Kaufmann has earned his second consecutive Scholar All-America honor. The sophomore won his weight bracket at 149 lbs. in the JCU Open and was the runner-up at 141 lbs. bracket at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open, along with placing in the top 6 at the Storm Open and the Purple Raider Open. He was the only NDC grappler to go 3-0 at the Greyhound Duals. The education major won back-to-back matchups to take third place at the MEC Championships.
