Notre Dame College is commemorating Black History Month with activities ranging from trivia to trap music.

The College starts the month of February with “Hair History Week,” presented by Ladosha Wright, entrepreneur, author and activist, on Wednesday, February 1, at 6 p.m. in room 118 of the Administration Building on the Notre Dame campus. Refreshments will be provided. Enter campus at 1857 South Green Road.

The discussion is free and open to the public.

Notre Dame’s Office of Student Affairs is conducting Black History Trivia on Tuesday, February 7, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Falcons’ Nest student center and the College presents Trap Karaoke on Thursday, February 16, from 7-10 p.m. in Regina Auditorium. this event is sponsored by Notre Dame’s Office of Student Engagement and Leadership and the Black Student Union. Trap karaoke is like a concert sing along focusing on trap hip-hop music.

Among other programs, the Clara Fritzsche Library at the College has a special display of books and resources offering information and accounts of People of Color in America.

Black History Month, also known as African American History Month, is an annual commemoration of achievements by People of Color and time to recognize their important contributions to U.S. history. To learn more go to BlackHistoryMonth.gov.

The “Hair History Week” program will provide an understanding of the cultural importance of diverse hair. It is sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Black Students, the Hispanic Student Organization and the College’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Wright, a cosmetologist and owner of the Reverence Design Team Hair Salon in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, uses trichology, the study of scalp and hair, to empower others to learn what she has coined, the Wright Principles of hair care and hair styling. She identifies three tenets: the right products, the right tools and the right techniques.

She has published books: Curly Hair Adventures, What They Don’t Tell You at The Hair Salon and The Beauty and Barber Survival Plan. She is the creator of the Wright Hair Products and the Wright Polish. She has been featured in several local and national publications and television shows.

Wright was awarded a grant for The Ubuntu Hair Love Project from Neighborhood Connections that provides support for those dealing with issues from hair discrimination and hair shaming.
