Notre Dame College Continues Black History Month with Virtual Presentation | City of Dublin

Notre Dame College is providing a free, virtual panel presentation as part of its ongoing celebration of Black History Month throughout February.

The Department of Strategic Communication & Public Relations in partnership with the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is hosting the discussion on “The Role of the Strategic Communications Professional in the Multicultural Marketplace” on Thursday, February 23, at 4 p.m. The panelists for this event are Marsha Buchanan, media relations manager at HCA Houston Health Care, and Jocelyn Givens, chief communications officer at the American Hemostasis and Thrombosis Network (ATHN).

Marsha Buchanan

Buchanan is certified in multicultural marketing by Florida State University, where she earned master’s degree in integrated marketing and management. She has been active with the Hispanic Marketing Communication, Multicultural Marketing Association of Students and Black Graduate Student Association. She earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast from Florida A&M University, a public and historical black university.

Buchanan is known for building relationships with media personnel, securing international attention for brand initiatives and executing national brand projects. HCA Houston Healthcare has a network of more than 40 facilities and is a leading provider of medical care in the Houston area. The center serves nearly a million patients every year and provides more than $2 billion in charity care annually.

She has worked with health care institutions and public relations agencies in Florida as well as Texas.

Jocelyn Givens

Givens has more than 15 years of experience leading and executing public relations and integrated marketing communications campaigns in the public sector, private sector and with healthcare institutions. ATHN, a nonprofit organization, addresses the needs of those affected by bleeding and clotting disorders. The company is known for using technology to secure data, advance knowledge transform care. ATHN partners with affiliates, industry and government agencies, among others.

She has worked with the American College of Rheumatology in Atlanta and Tallahassee, Fla., Memorial Health Care. Givens earned a master’s in integrated marketing communications and a bachelor’s in mass media studies, both from Florida State University

PR

The strategic communication and PR bachelor’s degree at Notre Dame prepares individuals to work as creative, critical and ethical communicators within personal or professional settings. The curriculum is in partnership with business and art programs at the College.
