On Thursday, Notre Dame College displayed significant improvement, as they have all season. For the first time this year, the Falcons' final team score reached 200 in a 260.770-207.795 loss to No. 15 West Liberty University. NDC broke program records in the Acro event, the Pyramid event, the Tumbling event, Team event and tied the program record in the Toss event.
Along with setting program highs in almost every event and final score, NDC also set program records for first half and second half scores. The Falcons had the highest score of any second half this season, by over 18 points.
To start the day in the Compulsory event, NDC had an impressive Toss heat. The Falcons posted a 9.75, out of 10, and tied with West Liberty in that heat. Notre Dame was 0.05 away from tying its program record for the event, finishing with a 31.40.
In the Acro event, Notre Dame totaled a 19.70. The Falcons continued gaining momentum in the Pyramid event, finishing just 3.30 off of their start value. In both the Synchronized and Open heats, the Falcons posted an 8.95 out of 9.60. They would finish the event with a 25.70.
This season, NDC has been strong in the Toss event and Thursday was no different. In the 450 Salto heat, Notre Dame posted an 8.70, beating West Liberty in that heat and falling just 0.10 off of its start value. Notre Dame did not stop there, as the team also posted a higher score than the Hilltoppers in the Synchronized heat, with an 8.55 out of 9.00.
In the Tumbling and Team events, the Falcons shattered the previous program records.
Beginning with Tumbling, NDC did not fall further than 1.5 off of its start value in any of the six heats. In the duo pass, the Falcons posted a 7.75, out of 8.75 and the quad pass earned the team a 6.85, out of 7.5. Adrianna Nix, in the aerial pass, had an 8.225, out of 8.75, Delaina Kielley, in the 6-element pass, posted an 8.025, out of 8.45, and Kati Rice finished with an impressive 8.975, out of 9.10, in the open pass, beating West Liberty's score in that heat. Notre Dame finished the event with 45.325, just 4.23 off of the start value.
In the Team event, NDC had yet to score over a 43.575 this season. On Thursday, the Falcons posted a 61.27.
The Falcons currently do not have any more competitions on their schedule in 2023, but will take what they learned from this season and continue to grow as a program.
