Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has filed a lawsuit against Magic Touch Exteriors and its operators, alleging they defrauded homeowners across the Midwest of over $460,000. The lawsuit, submitted in Franklin County Common Pleas Court, names Joseph Slye and David Harvey as defendants. Slye resides in Galloway, while Harvey is based in Columbus.
The suit accuses the Hilliard-based company of soliciting contracts for roof, gutter, and siding repairs following severe storms but frequently failing to deliver the promised services. “This company preyed on homeowners during a highly vulnerable time and then walked away with their money, leaving them with only empty promises,” Yost stated. “This legal action will hold them accountable so they don’t take advantage of any other Ohioans.”
This legal move follows a similar lawsuit filed in August against Liberty Restoration and its owner for allegedly taking $158,000 from consumers without performing repairs or issuing refunds. This previous case was also filed in Franklin County Common Pleas Court.
In the current case against Magic Touch Exteriors, Yost’s Consumer Protection Section has documented 38 consumer complaints between June 11, 2022, and April 24, 2024. Sixteen of these complaints are from Ohio residents. The allegations claim that the company failed to complete storm-related home repairs after entering into contracts and ceased communication with consumers. Additionally, there were issues reported regarding payments and communications with third-party insurance companies. Estimated damages from these complaints exceed $460,000.
The lawsuit seeks restitution for affected consumers, civil penalties, and injunctive relief to prevent future fraudulent activities by the company and its operators.
