Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted announced that nearly 1,000 students participated in the High School Tech Internship Program, gaining real-world experience in technology-related roles. He made the announcement in a Sept. 9 news release, according to HometownStations.com.

The High School Tech Internship Program allows Ohio business owners to be reimbursed up to $5,000 per intern for hosting high school interns in technology-related roles. According to the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation webpage focused on the high school tech internship program, students gain valuable work experience, and businesses work with the tech talent they need. Interns will work in entry-level roles focusing on software development, IT infrastructure including data and cloud information; cybersecurity, advanced mobility, broadband, and 5G.

Applications are currently open for the 2025 summer internship program intermediaries from Sept. 9 through Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. Intermediaries will be the single point of contact between business owners and educational entities, according to the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation. The program allows business owners to get a reimbursement of $5,000 per student intern.

"This is how we keep our young talent in Ohio, by connecting them to employers and career paths before they leave high school," said Husted in the Sept. 9 news release from Governor Mike DeWine’s office. "When we started, many employers were skeptical that high school students were up to the task but given the fact that this year we hit a record number of intern requests shows employers and students see the value of the program."

Lt. Gov. Jon Husted was raised in Williams County. He is a graduate of Montpelier High School and attended the University of Dayton, graduating with both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. According to his biography on the Ohio Governor’s website, he worked in the Miami Valley as Vice President for Economic Development at the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce after graduating with his master’s degree. He has been Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives and a member of the Ohio Senate. Husted served as Secretary of State and was elected Lt. Governor of Ohio on Nov. 6, 2018.
