FOIA Request Sent to Dekalb County Regarding Vendor Payments on September 26, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Dekalb County, Illinois, regarding vendor payments on September 26, 2024.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at DeKalb Times requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request specifically sought a list of all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024, until September 26, 2024. The desired fields in the list include the vendor name, transaction date, transaction description, and amount.

The importance of access to public records for our work cannot be overstated. It is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from Dekalb County and will continue our mission of keeping the public informed about their local government's activities.
