FOIA Request Sent to Huron County Regarding Vendor Payments on September 26, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Huron County, Ohio on September 26, 2024. The request, made by Buckeye Reporter, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage of local governmental affairs, seeks detailed information about the county's vendor payments.

Specifically, the FOIA request asks for a list of all payments made to vendors from January 1st to September 26th in 2024. The requested details include the name of the vendor, the date of each transaction, a description of each transaction, and the amount paid in each transaction.

As representatives of Buckeye Reporter explained in their request, access to public records is crucial for their role in gathering and reporting news. This transparency enables them to hold public institutions accountable and provide important information to the public.

The Buckeye Reporter also requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq., stating that their role in disseminating information makes them eligible for such an exemption.

Huron County has yet to respond publicly or privately to this FOIA request.
