In a swift legislative process, the Ohio House introduced, conducted three hearings, and passed House Bill 205 in just two weeks. This bill is a reintroduced version of previous legislation from the last General Assembly. It mandates hiring quotas for oil refinery workforces, requiring that 80 percent of contractors be sourced from an apprenticeship program.

The business community has expressed opposition to this bill during its rapid committee consideration. Pat Tiberi contributed an op-ed on the subject, which was published in the Toledo Blade last week.

The bill now moves to the Senate. Opponents plan to continue their efforts by informing Senators about what they view as a concerning precedent set by this legislation.
