A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Adams County on October 7, 2024. The request was made by us at Buckeye Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The records requested under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq., were specifically for a list of FOIA logs that were sent to the county from January 1, 2024, till October 7, 2024. The fields requested in these logs include the requester's name and organization, the content of the request, the date of the request and its completion date, as well as the status of the FOIA.
As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await further communication from Adams County regarding this matter.
