The Buckeye Institute has announced the conclusion of its investigation into race-based programs at Ohio's public law schools. The investigation led to the termination of these programs, which were deemed discriminatory and unconstitutional.
David C. Tryon, director of litigation at The Buckeye Institute, stated, "Federal law and the U.S. Constitution prohibit discrimination based on race. Although the goals of these programs were laudable, it is a victory for the Constitution and the rule of law that all of the law schools ended these discriminatory programs or opened them to all applicants."
Earlier this year, The Buckeye Institute initiated an inquiry by sending public records requests to several institutions. These included Cleveland State University College of Law, Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University, University of Akron School of Law, University of Cincinnati College of Law, and University of Toledo College of Law.
As a result of this effort, all involved law schools have removed race-based requirements from their scholarship and internship offerings.
