President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order on February 7 aimed at safeguarding Second Amendment rights. The order emphasizes the importance of the Second Amendment as a protector of security and liberty, asserting that it has allowed Americans to defend themselves and their freedoms since the nation's founding.

The executive order mandates the Attorney General to review various actions by executive departments and agencies within 30 days to identify any ongoing infringements on Second Amendment rights. The Attorney General is tasked with presenting a proposed plan of action to the President through the Domestic Policy Advisor.

The review will cover presidential and agency actions from January 2021 through January 2025, focusing on those that may have affected Second Amendment rights under the guise of promoting safety. It also includes examining rules from the Department of Justice and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives related to firearms, as well as agency plans regarding enhanced regulatory enforcement policies.

Additionally, reports from the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, litigation positions affecting Second Amendment rights, firearm classifications, ammunition processing applications for firearms manufacture or export are part of this comprehensive review.

Upon submission of this plan, the Attorney General will collaborate with the Domestic Policy Advisor to finalize and implement it. The order clarifies that it should not affect existing legal authorities or functions related to budgetary proposals and does not create enforceable rights against the United States or its entities.
