The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has announced its plan to distribute over $325,000 in scholarships for the 2025-26 academic year. These scholarships are part of CMP's annual program aimed at supporting high school student-athletes involved in marksmanship.
Eligible students can apply for one-time shooting sports scholarships of $1,000, $3,000, and $5,000. Additionally, select applicants may receive four-year recurring scholarships valued at $5,000 annually ($20,000 total per recipient). The funds can be used for various educational pursuits including postsecondary or vocational programs, community colleges, universities, and trade schools.
Additional contributions include four $5,000 John C. Garand Scholarships from the Garand Collectors Association and three $5,000 scholarships from the family of Michael Thomas Randall. The Talladega Superspeedway has also contributed $5,000 to the scholarship fund.
The selection process involves a committee reviewing applications based on leadership experience; rifle or pistol competition history; extracurricular activities; and personal statements regarding the impact of receiving a scholarship. While a minimum GPA is not required to apply, academic achievements will be considered.
Since its inception in 2005, the CMP scholarship program has awarded numerous scholarships based on merit and participation in marksmanship activities. The program honors past CMP board members Judith Legerski, Jon Bengston, Harry Sieben, and Dr. Carolyn Hines by offering significant awards to top applicants.
In addition to marksmanship scholarships, CMP will provide community scholarships to students near its facilities in Anniston and Talladega (Alabama), as well as Port Clinton and Oak Harbor (Ohio). These local scholarships do not require marksmanship experience.
Applications must be submitted by April 4, 2025. Successful applicants will be notified by May 16. More information is available at thecmp.org/youth/cmp-scholarship-program.
