A man was fatally shot on February 9 after breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment in northwest Fort Worth. Authorities are describing the incident as a case of self-defense.

The Fort Worth Police Department reported that officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex located in the 2900 block of Watermark Drive, near NW Loop 820, around 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Michael James Andree's body on the third-floor landing.

Investigators revealed that Andree forced entry into the apartment and waited for his ex-girlfriend to return home with another man. As they entered, Andree confronted them. The man accompanying the woman then drew a handgun and fired multiple shots at Andree, striking him at least once.

Andree was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made, and police confirmed that the shooter is cooperating fully with law enforcement as investigations continue.

Texas law permits the use of deadly force in self-defense when unlawful entry occurs. This incident appears to align with Texas' Castle Doctrine, which protects individuals defending themselves or their property from intruders.

The exact relationship between the woman and the shooter remains unclear. However, this case underscores the significance of self-defense rights under the Second Amendment. It highlights how armed citizens can be crucial in defending against violent threats.
