Governor Mike DeWine's recent State of the State address has garnered positive reactions from small business advocates in Ohio. Chris Ferruso, the Ohio State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), expressed support for the governor's focus on workforce development and regulatory reform.

Ferruso stated, "The continuing worker shortage is a top problem for Ohio’s small businesses, so we are thankful that Governor DeWine has made strengthening our workforce a priority of his administration and is tasking Lieutenant Governor Tressel to focus on identifying the job, skillset, education, and talent needs in each region of Ohio to assist Main Street." He further noted that Governor DeWine recognizes the challenges posed by regulations on small businesses and is committed to reducing unnecessary mandates.

Ferruso added, "We look forward to continuing to work with Governor DeWine and members of the Ohio Legislature to promote policies that will boost Ohio’s economy."

The NFIB's latest jobs report highlights ongoing employment challenges. In February, 38% of small business owners reported unfilled job openings, marking the highest level since August 2024. Additionally, 53% of owners were either hiring or attempting to hire during that month.
