Ohio officials have announced that Franklin County will receive $25 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s BUILD grant program to support improvements to Alum Creek Drive. The funding is intended to widen the roadway by adding a third through lane in each direction between State Route 317 and Groveport Road, covering about 2.6 miles.

“Ohio is a hub for manufacturing, and I’m proud to help lead the effort to strengthen the critical infrastructure that undergirds Ohio jobs. Ohio’s central location allows drivers to reach more than 60% of the U.S. population daily. We fought for this $25 million investment in Franklin County to reduce travel time, improve safety and support the supply chains that keep Ohio’s economy moving forward. I’ll continue to advocate for Made-in-Ohio solutions that ensure our state remains at the heart of our nation’s economic future,” said Husted.

“My number one priority is supporting Ohio-based innovation, and I’m thrilled to announce a $25 million investment in key projects in Franklin County. This grant for Alum Creek Drive is a big win for Central Ohio and will make the road safer, improve access to jobs and the airport, and help support future growth in the region. I’m grateful to Secretary Duffy and Senator Husted for their partnership on these important grants that will ensure Ohio leads the way regionally and nationally,” said Moreno.

“As Franklin County Engineer, I am deeply grateful to Senators Husted and Moreno for their steadfast leadership and support in securing this BUILD grant. This investment is critical to Franklin County and the Alum Creek Drive corridor—a key link in the nation’s freight network—and will help drive economic growth by improving safety, mobility, and job access. Strong infrastructure is the backbone of a thriving Central Ohio,” said Adam W. Fowler, P.E., P.S., Franklin County Engineer.

The announcement comes after Husted and Moreno sent a letter on June 18, 2025, to John Augustine, Director of USDOT’s Office of Infrastructure Deployment, advocating for these projects in Franklin County.

This grant builds on Husted’s efforts as part of his work with the Committee on Environment and Public Works, which oversees legislation related to environmental protection as well as natural resource use and conservation across Ohio.

The BUILD program funds surface transportation infrastructure projects expected to have significant local or regional impacts.
