Jon Husted has commended Matthew and Carrie Damschroder for being named 2025 Angels in Adoption Honorees. "I’m grateful that we can shine a light on the Damschroders’ incredible work and give them the recognition they’ve earned. I began my life in a foster home until my loving parents adopted me, so this is an issue that’s close to my heart. Adoption saves lives, provides kids with safe and permanent homes and makes families whole," said Husted.
The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), a nonprofit organization founded in 2001, works to remove obstacles that prevent children from joining permanent families. Its Angels in Adoption Leadership Program recognizes individuals and organizations for significant contributions to adoption, permanency, and child welfare. Members of Congress are responsible for nominating recipients of the Angels in Adoption award.
Matthew Damschroder serves as director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Both he and his wife Carrie are former foster parents who have adopted two children. The CCAI selected them for their efforts and advocacy related to adoption.
Husted’s recommendation aligns with his ongoing support for adoption and foster care initiatives. Earlier this year, the Senate approved his resolution designating May as National Foster Care Month.
