U.S. Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) met with advocates and local leaders in Akron to discuss efforts to address human trafficking in Ohio. The meeting included members of the Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking, a group focused on raising awareness and supporting victims throughout Summit County.
“Human trafficking exploits innocent children and adults within Ohio’s borders. The Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking is raising awareness and supporting victims, and I’m thankful for their efforts. As Ohio takes action locally, I’ll continue working to pass a federal law that would help law enforcement identify and stop human trafficking in a variety of work places,” said Husted.
Husted has introduced a bipartisan bill that would require the Department of Labor to train its employees to recognize signs of human trafficking at job sites and report suspected cases to law enforcement.
During an appearance on Special Report with Bret Baier, Husted highlighted the need for unity and cooperation in combating these crimes. In 2024, there were 334 recorded human trafficking cases involving 509 victims in Ohio.
The Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking continues its work by increasing public understanding of the issue and providing resources for survivors across the county.
