Senators Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) and Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), both members of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, have introduced the Accelerating Home Building Act. The legislation is intended to streamline housing construction and reduce costs for homebuyers.
“Out of control housing costs are making the American dream unaffordable for average Americans, forcing them choose between home ownership or paying for basic necessities,” said Senator Moreno. “I’m proud to work across the aisle on this innovative new program for local governments to streamline housing construction and lower costs, empowering working-class Americans to achieve homeownership with dignity. When combined with the ability to have on time rental payments count for the purposes of getting credit, we are able to make the American dream more accessible.”
Senator Blunt Rochester highlighted concerns about affordable housing in her state and nationwide. “We are in the middle of a housing affordability crisis in Delaware and across this nation,” said Senator Blunt Rochester. “One of my top priorities in the Senate is ensuring all Americans have a roof over their head and a place to call home. The bipartisan Accelerating Home Building Act supports pattern zoning, a creative and cost-effective method to reduce the cost of housing in our communities. I am grateful to Senator Moreno for his collaboration on this bill and look forward to getting it passed into law.”
The bill seeks to address rising housing prices by supporting local governments’ efforts through programs such as pattern zoning, which can help lower construction expenses and increase access to affordable homes.
