Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) has received recognition for his role in advancing measures to support rural hospitals and Medicaid funding in Ohio. An op-ed published in Crain’s Cleveland Business highlights provisions included in a recent federal reconciliation bill, which aim to provide new financial resources for rural healthcare facilities and extend the state’s Medicaid supplemental payment program through 2028.
Mike Abrams, President and CEO of the Ohio Hospital Association, stated: “As the united voice of Ohio’s hospital community, the Ohio Hospital Association is grateful for the provisions in the federal reconciliation bill that establish new financial resources for rural hospitals and extend Ohio’s Medicaid supplemental payment program through 2028. Critical changes in the final bill advanced by Sens. Jon Husted, Bernie Moreno and Reps. Troy Balderson and Bob Latta eliminated elements that would have triggered a cascade of immediate state Medicaid budget cuts, and the new Rural Health Transformation Fund was greatly expanded.”
According to Abrams, members of Ohio's congressional delegation worked to increase funding for the Rural Health Transformation Fund to $50 billion over five years. This allocation will distribute $10 billion annually from fiscal year 2026 through 2030.
