Gov. Mike DeWine is being called out by conservatives for his continued shut down of the state.
DeWine recently landed on a list of “lockdown governors,” as one of the few GOP governors who are not reopening their states.
“I think Gov. DeWine is particularly egregious in his handling of the virus considering there was no widespread outbreak in Ohio,” veteran political commentator Julie Kelly told the Buckeye Reporter.
Kelly, a political commentator and senior contributor at American Greatness, has been tracking the Covid-19 pandemic since March.
“We did absolutely everything wrong and for the Republican governors to not recognize this now and fix it is unbelievable,” Kelly said. “Continuing to pretend that they can hide from this virus is outrageous.”
DeWine is facing an impeachment push from within Ohio’s GOP.
The articles of impeachment note the executive orders by DeWine locking down the state are unconstitutional.
The challenge comes as Pennsylvania’s Democrat Gov. Tom Wolf lost a challenge in a U.S. District Court which found his expansion of executive powers during the pandemic was unconstitutional.
State Rep. John Becker (R-Union Township) is also trying to have DeWine criminally charged for his alleged constitutional lapses.
The long-term consequences of the shutdowns are not yet known.
According to Kelly, one thing is known though…the longer lockdowns persist, the more problems will grow and the more pronounced they will be once fully realized.
“The consequences are going to to be fierce,” Kelly said. “It is going to be some time before we can understand the costly economic, educational, social and cultural consequences of these decisions.”
In contrast to DeWine, Kelly praises the way governors like Florida’s Ron DeSantis and South Dakota’s Kristi Noem handled the pandemic and offers those states as an example of how governors across the board should move forward.
“(DeSantis) did submit to the lockdown but he did what was right. he made sure the most vulnerable were protected,” Kelly said. “With a such a large population.”
Noem never shut down South Dakota.
