Notre Dame College Students Present Public Career, Healthcare Fair

18

Notre Dame College students are helping their classmates, and members of the community, get their careers started.

Business majors in an entrepreneurship course taught by Peter Corrigan, assistant professor of entrepreneurship and director of the College’s Enterprise Development Center, are hosting a Career & Healthcare Fair on Monday, April 11, from 3-7 p.m. in the Keller Center on the Notre Dame campus.

More than 50 employers with open positions are expected to be on site to find new hires. Businesses include Eaton Corp., Swagelok, Jergens, Cleveland Clinic, Mercy Health, Alloy Precision and Cohen and Co., among others.

The fair is free and open to all students and alumni of Notre Dame and Ursuline College, as well as the public. The event is co-sponsored by Ursuline College. Shuttle service will be provided between the two campuses. The entrance to Notre Dame is located at 1857 S. Green Road.

“We are putting on this career fair here at NDC to help students potentially secure a job for the future,” said senior Nathan Moore, one of the students creating and coordinating the career fair as if it is their own startup business.

This project is another example of experiential learning at Notre Dame. The students in the entrepreneurship course have planned, prepared and are presenting the career fair as part of their final class project.

Fair recruiters will span all five of Notre Dame’s academic divisions, arts and humanities, business, education, nursing and sciences, with an emphasis on healthcare. In addition to its nursing program, Notre Dame also offers undergraduate majors in biology, chemistry, medical laboratory science, psychology, social work and in healthcare administration and a minor in health education and physical education.

“Being a small school, sometimes the students here do not get the recognition needed for all of their hard work,” Moore said. “Putting on this career fair will hopefully show employers that there are fantastic students here willing to go above and beyond.”

In addition to learning about job opportunities at the fair, students and residents also can network with potential employers, practice their interviewing skills and have their resumes reviewed.
