Ohio Law Allows Concealed Carry of Handguns with Threaded Barrels and Muzzle Brakes
In a recent article by Dean Rieck, the question of whether it is legal to carry a concealed handgun with a threaded barrel in Ohio was addressed. Rieck confirmed, "Yes, you can." He also pointed out the source of confusion regarding threaded barrels, attributing it to misinformation circulating online.
Rieck clarified that while some states categorize pistols with threaded barrels as illegal "assault weapons," Ohio does not have such restrictions. He stated, "The Buckeye State has no laws regarding threaded barrels because we do not have an 'assault weapons' ban." Therefore, handguns with threaded barrels are permissible for concealed carry in Ohio.
Additionally, the article raised another inquiry: the legality of carrying a handgun with a muzzle brake or compensator. Rieck affirmed, "The answer is yes." He explained the functionality of both devices, noting that they are designed to reduce firearm movement by redirecting gasses from a fired round.
Whether integrated into the firearm or added as a separate component, muzzle brakes and compensators are deemed lawful in Ohio for both regular possession and concealed carry.
Dean Rieck, the Executive Director of Buckeye Firearms Association, NRA Patron Member, and former competitive shooter, provided insights into Ohio's firearm regulations, emphasizing the legality of carrying handguns with threaded barrels and muzzle brakes.
