Rising high school juniors and seniors in Ohio have a unique chance to gain insight into various career paths related to wildlife, parks, conservation, and more through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) job shadow program.

“We do crucial work at ODNR to protect our natural resources and provide opportunities for people to explore the great outdoors,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz expressed in an April 16 news release. “It is vital that Ohio is able to carry that mission into the future by educating and inspiring new generations of dedicated conservationists.”

The job shadow program aims to introduce students to the diverse career options available at ODNR by pairing them with staff members. This opportunity allows students to experience a typical day on the job, understand role requirements, and learn about job tasks in various divisions such as law enforcement, engineering, forestry, and more.

Job shadow day is scheduled for June 27, and interested students can apply through May 17 on the ODNR Job Shadow webpage. ODNR plans to hold two job shadow days per year, with the fall date for 2024 yet to be announced.

For those seeking more information about the application process or the program itself, they can reach out to Will Armbruster at [email protected].
