Donald Trump Jr. recently shared a video on Instagram featuring his father, President-elect Donald Trump, announcing plans for national concealed-carry reciprocity. In the post, Trump Jr. stated, “Boom! My father just announced concealed carry reciprocity. The Second Amendment will stay and remain protected."

In the video, Donald Trump expressed his commitment to self-defense rights by stating, "I will protect the right of self-defense everywhere it is under siege, and I will sign concealed-carry reciprocity. Your Second Amendment does not end at the state lines." This announcement aligns with Trump's past advocacy for national reciprocity during his 2015 candidacy.

The concept of national reciprocity suggests that a concealed-carry permit should be recognized across state lines similar to a driver's license. However, the implementation details remain uncertain due to varying state laws on concealed-carry weapons (CCW).

Dean Rieck from Buckeye Firearms Association commented on this development but emphasized his focus on Ohio's legislative matters following an election where 80% of BFA-endorsed candidates secured seats in the state legislature. "Over the last 20 years, BFA has moved Ohio from one of the least gun-friendly states to one of the most gun-friendly states," Rieck said. He also mentioned that there is still work to be done.

Rieck noted that Ohio Governor Mike DeWine needs to appoint a replacement for Senator JD Vance, who is set to become Trump's vice president in January. "We have communicated our wish to the governor that whoever replaces Vance must be someone with a track record of respect for the Second Amendment," Rieck added.
