Thomas Massie, a U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky's 4th district since 2012, recently shared his insights on the economic implications of U.S. military activities near the Red Sea and the constitutional requirements for military action against Iran.
On March 16, 2025, Massie posted a tweet highlighting the financial beneficiaries of U.S. military actions aimed at addressing shipping disruptions caused by the Houthi near the Red Sea. He stated: "Expressed in billions of dollars list the five countries and five corporations that will benefit most from the U.S. military activity to eliminate shipping disruptions caused by the Houthi near the Red Sea. China is 1st. isn’t in the top 5."
Later that day, Massie elaborated on this issue with another tweet explaining the strategic importance of this shipping route: "What the media won’t tell you is this shipping route is mainly used to get exports from Asia to Europe. Its economic value to the United States is primarily in importing oil from the Middle East, but we can drill our own oil. Most U.S. imports from Asia come via the Pacific."
On March 17, 2025, Massie addressed constitutional considerations regarding potential military action against Iran: " Constitutional PSA: To strike Iran requires a vote of Congress because it’s an Act of War."
