Gov. Mike DeWine is facing an intra-party challenge after several Republican House members filed official articles of impeachment against him.

DeWine has distanced himself from the rest of the state's Republican Party by carrying out executive orders which his critics are calling overbroad.

“Rather than hearing the cries of Ohioans, Gov. DeWine continues to stifle those cries by finding more inventive ways to use masks to muffle the voices of the people,” Rep. John Becker said in a statement. “He continues to have callous disregard for the fact that his isolation policies have led to a shockingly high number of suicides, alarming rates of drug abuse, persistently high unemployment, and the forced abandonment of the elderly by their loved ones.”

Becker was joined by Reps. Candice Keller, Nino Vitale and Paul Zeltwanger, all Republicans.

Zeltwanger previously said DeWine needs to be reeled in.

“This is America,” Zeltwanger told the Buckeye Reporter. “The land of the free because of the brave. It's past time that brave legislators step up to reinstate the balance of power in Ohio.”

DeWine has been called the most “egregious” of lockdown governors.
