Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today announced a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant of $108,000 to the Western Reserve Port Authority (WRPA) for the replacement of the airport’s wind cone that has reached the end of its useful life and no longer meets FAA design standards. The grant, funded by the FAA, will provide safer updated equipment for the Youngstown Air Reserve Station and the general aviation community.

"The Youngstown Warren Regional Airport is an economic driver in the Mahoning Valley as it serves the general aviation community and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station,” said Congressman Ryan. “This investment is not only good news for the airport, but the Mahoning Valley at large. I will always work hard to ensure that the men and women who work and serve there have the tools necessary to do their jobs safely and efficiently.”

“These grant resources assist YNG in continuing to maintain its instrumental and navigational devices to ensure proper safety on landings and takeoffs,” said Anthony Trevena, Executive Director of the Western Reserve Port Authority. “This wind cone is especially critical in assisting the many smaller aircrafts that utilize YNG to navigate wind speed and direction.”

The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) airport grant program funds airport infrastructure projects such as runways, taxiways, airport signage, airport lighting, and airport markings. The grants strengthen our nation's aviation infrastructure.
