(COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced state support today for 15 mixed-use development projects expected to create more than $401 million in new payroll and $2.6 billion in investments across Ohio.

The projects are receiving state support as part of the third round of the Transformational Mixed-Use Development Program. Projects will support the construction or redevelopment of more than 13.3 million square feet of transformational space to create housing, retail, dining, office, lodging, and entertainment opportunities across the state.

"These projects are creating dynamic spaces for Ohioans to live, work, and play," said Governor DeWine. "With these investments, we are empowering communities to better themselves for the future and spur more economic growth in Ohio."

The projects announced today include the construction of a new 650-room convention center hotel in Cincinnati, rehabilitation and expansion of Dayton’s historic Arcade District, the transformation of Columbus’ former Kroger Bakery Complex and Ford Assembly plant into a new neighborhood district, and the renovations of several buildings in Cleveland’s iconic Playhouse Square, the largest theater district in the country outside of New York City.

State support for the projects include $100 million in tax credits approved today by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority. The awards are split between major city and general projects, totaling $77,996,940 and $22,003,060 respectively. Major city projects must be located within 10 miles of a corporation limit of Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, or Toledo. Eligible costs include land acquisition, building acquisition, demolition, site improvement, and new construction of the site. The Department of Development recommended the projects.

“This isn’t about constructing large developments; it’s about building communities and fostering economic growth for a brighter future,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “Through this program, we recognize the impact of mixed-use developments to create vibrant and sustainable spaces that revitalize neighborhoods and enhance the quality of life for residents.”

The Transformational Mixed-Use Development program was created with support from the Ohio General Assembly. Applications for the fourth round of the program will be accepted later this year
