Byrne Garners Second Career OAC Wrestler of the Week Accolade | Baldwin-Wallace College Athletics
For the second this season and in his career, Baldwin Wallace University senior All-American 197-pound wrestler Doug Byrne (Wickliffe) has been selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week.
Byrne, who is ranked third nationally at 197 pounds, earns his second honor after posting an undefeated 4-0 record, including three pinfalls to lead the No. 11 nationally-ranked Yellow Jackets to a 3-1 record at the Gator Boot Duals hosted by Luther (Iowa) College in Nashville, Tennessee.
He began the duals with a 14-5 major decision over No. 7 nationally ranked Cam Farrow of York (Pa.) College. Byrne closed out the duals with three straight pins as he posted a victory in 1:15 over Evan Danowski of the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, a win in 2:56 over Kody Krupp of Olivet (Mich.) College and a victory in 2:29 over Mauro Pellet of Alvernia (Pa.) College.
This season, Byrne is undefeated with a record of 11-0. He has recorded eight pinfalls, one major decision and one technical fall.
For his career, Byrne has a record of 64 wins with 12 losses. He has tallied 38 pins, seven major decisions and two technical falls.
Off the mat, Byrne is a NWCA Scholar All-American.
BW is back in action on Friday and Saturday, January 6 and 7 when it travels to Louisville, Kentucky to compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals inside the Kentucky Expo Center.
