Ava O'Sullivan of the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) women's golf team has defended her title at the Women's Golf Association of Pennsylvania (WGAP) Mary Thayer Farnum Cup. The event took place at Union League Liberty Hill, serving as the WGAP Class A Women's Championship.

O'Sullivan finished with a total gross score of 140, four under par. This marks her second consecutive win at the tournament, improving on her previous year's performance by two strokes. In 2024, she posted rounds of 71 on both days for a total score of 142. This year, she matched her opening round of 71 on Sunday and followed it with a 69 on Monday to secure the victory.

Her win is part of a successful summer for the BGSU women's golf program. O'Sullivan is now the fourth member of the team to earn an individual tournament victory this season. Teammates Macie Elzinga, Addison Kartusch, and Clare Yeazell have also recorded wins in summer tournaments. Notably, Macie Elzinga's triumph in the Michigan Women's Amateur Championship qualified her to compete in the US Women's Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes in Oregon last week.

The Falcons are preparing for their upcoming season after achieving a program-best second-place finish at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship in 2024. Their fall schedule begins on August 31 with participation in the A-Ga-Ming Invitational hosted by Central Michigan in Kewadin, Michigan.

"Ava O'Sullivan has now won the Mary Thayer Farnum cup two years in a row, improving on her score from the 2024 tournament by two strokes. Last summer, she shot a 71 on both days of the tournament for a total score of 142. Last weekend, she opened the tournament with another 71 on Sunday, but then closed out the tournament with a 69 on Monday, solidifying her place atop the leaderboard and finishing with a 140."

"O'Sullivan's victory adds to an impressive summer for the Falcons, as she becomes the fourth member of the BGSU women's golf team to earn an individual tournament victory. Macie Elzinga, Addison Kartusch, and Clare Yeazell have also posted summer tournament victories, and Macie Elzinga's victory in the Michigan Women's Amateur Championship earned her the opportunity to compete in the US Women's Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes in Oregon last week."

"With this win, the BGSU women's golf team continues to build momentum for the upcoming season, as they will look to improve on their program-best second-place finish at the MAC Championship in 2024. The Falcons will open up their fall slate of tournaments on Aug. 31 as they travel up to Kewadin, Mich. for the A-Ga-Ming Invitational hosted by Central Michigan."
