After helping the Kenyon College baseball team close their spring break schedule with four straight wins, the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) picked Edwin Groff as the Player of the Week.
After opening the season with two weeks in Fort Pierce, Florida, the four-game winning streak gave the Owls a 9-3 record. Kenyon outscored opponents by an outrageous 40-8 mark over the stretch despite three of the games going just seven innings, winning 12-2 against Lasell University, sweeping the College of Mount St. Vincent 8-4, 5-0 in a doubleheader, and defeating Marywood University 15-2.
Groff garnered recognition after tallying multiple hits in all four games, including three straight three-hit outings. The designated hitter lived up to his position, going 11-18 (.611) at the plate while posting a matching .611 on-base percentage and a .833 slugging percentage. Overall, he had two doubles, a triple, five RBIs, and five runs scored after coming around to score in each game and batting a runner home in three of the four.
The Los Angeles, California, native started the week strong with a 3-5 performance against Lasell, scoring twice with two RBIs and a triple. A day later, in a twin bill against Mount St. Vincent, the sophomore was 3-4 in each game of the sweep before a 2-5, two-RBI day against Marywood in the team's Florida finale.
Groff and the Owls return to Gambier for the team's home opener. Kenyon is scheduled to host doubleheaders against the Illinois Institute of Technology (5-5) on both Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26. On both days, the first pitch is set for noon.
