The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team is preparing for a significant Mid-American Conference (MAC) matchup against Western Michigan University on Friday, March 7. The game, which will take place at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio, is set to begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+. Todd Walker will provide the radio commentary on WFRO Eagle 99.

This game marks the end of the regular season for both teams and carries high stakes as the winner will secure a spot in the upcoming MAC Tournament. Currently, only two spots remain open in the tournament field, with the top two seeds already determined.

Bowling Green has announced a flash sale on general admission tickets for $5 until noon on game day. Additionally, it will be Medical Professionals Night with t-shirts being given away to medical professionals attending the game.

The Falcons and Broncos have faced each other 129 times previously, with Bowling Green leading the series 78-51. In their last encounter earlier this season on January 7, Bowling Green emerged victorious. A win for Bowling Green would not only clinch them a spot in the MAC Tournament but also extend their current winning streak to five games and give them a .500 record within conference play.

There are multiple scenarios for Bowling Green to qualify for the tournament. A victory over Western Michigan would secure them the seventh seed and a first-round matchup against Miami (OH). If they lose, they could still qualify if Ball State loses to Miami (OH) and Central Michigan loses to Northern Illinois.

Western Michigan enters this game having won four of their last six matches. Junior guard Chansey Willis Jr. has been pivotal for WMU, scoring double digits in ten consecutive games.

Bowling Green's recent success can be attributed to strong defensive performances. Over their last nine games, they have allowed an average of just 61 points per game in their seven wins during that stretch.

Javontae Campbell from BGSU continues his pursuit of records with his defensive prowess. He currently ranks sixth in MAC single-season steals and is close to moving up further in those rankings.

BGSU head coach Todd Simon is looking to maintain his streak of making conference tournaments every year he has coached at Division I level except when tournaments were canceled due to COVID-19 in 2019-20.
